WHERE DID IT ALL START??

Early 1800's - "Makana" was a Xhosa chief who drowned whilst trying to excapse from Robben Island during the early years of imprisonment. February 1995 - At a reunion of ex-political prisoners on Robben Island, exp- President Nelson Mandela called for the formation of an "Ex-Political Prisoners Committee".

  • EPPA REGIONAL STRUCTURES 

    The constitution of the EPPA provides that there should be a national conference once every three years. In 2003, at EPPA National Conference Held in Bloemfontein, it was decided that provincial and regional EPPA structures be established. Currently there are 9 provincial structures, namely:

    KwaZulu Natal EPPA;  EPPA (North west province) Limpuma,  EPPA (Limpopo & Mpumalanga) , Free State EPPA , Eastern Cape EPPA , Western Cape EPPA Northern,  Cape EPPA Gauteng EPPA

  • Ex-Political Prisoners Plan to Honour Mandela

    THEY were locked up for years for fighting to end apartheid, yet today many have been forgotten and are homeless, struggling to make ends meet. Despite these challenges, former political prisoners are planning a tribute for Nelson Mandela and reunion scheduled for next year. The Ex-Political Prisoners Association, representing about 3 000 former political prisoners, has announced plans for an event on Robben Island to celebrate Mandela's 94th birthday on Wednesday. It is to have a reunion on February 11, the 23rd anniversary of Mandela's release from prison. Its general secretary, Notty Ngcobo, said the reunion would be held on Robben Island or at Qunu
